PARTNERSHIP
The pioneering partnership between Out East and Cave de Tain represents the first time ever an Hermitage wine is being released by and American brand. Founded in 1933, and situated in the heart of the Northern Rhône Valley, Cave de Tain is a leading producer of world renowned Hermitage wines. Four generations of growers have contributed to Cave de Tain’s internationally recognized sustainable winemaking expertise, resulting in beautifully balanced, rich and smooth wines.
Having recently undergone a €10M capital investment program, Cave de Tain’s state-of-the-art wine making facilities compliment their carefully tended and expertly managed vineyards - covering 2434 acres and five appellations: Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, Saint-Joseph and Saint-Péray.

ORIGINS
Considered the birthplace of the Syrah grape, wines from world renowned Hermitage appellation have been recognized as some of France’s greatest wines for a considerable time. Combining one of the most complex and varied combinations of terroirs, the breathtaking 336 acre hillside is steeped in centuries of winemaking tradition and consistently outstanding vintages, producing red Syrah wines which are deep in color, firm, intense, balanced and built for aging.
The vineyard’s perfect location on the left-bank of the Rhône is known for its exposure to the sun, the influence of the Mediterranean, and for being sheltered from the northerly winds. This harmony between the soils and the exposure are perfect for Syrah that, in the area’s red crus, finds the perfect expression of its strength. This balance is also reflected in the tannins that oscillate between strength and finesse.

PRODUCTION
Situated on the left, south facing bank of the Rhone River, grapes from the steep Hermitage hillside are harvested by hand in late August and early September. The harvest is subject to traditional maceration in concrete vats at 28°C with soft extraction methods (regular pumping over, with delestage occurring at the beginning of the fermentation). This is followed by a warm post-fermentation maceration at 30°, with regular tastings to determine when to run off warm wine and malolactic fermentation in barrels.
Out East Hermitage is then aged in a specific combination of new and aged (up to five years) French oak barrels, helping to produced a nuanced and distinct flavor profile.
